Good news, everyone: Apple has confirmed that existing Apple TV 2 owners can get the new interface Apple showed off at the iPad 3 event via a free software update.

As far as I can tell, the only major thing you’ll be missing out on if you don’t get an Apple TV 3 is 1080p video; the second-generation Apple TV is capped at 720p.
