As of OS X 10.8.2, Messages will prompt you add your iOS phone number for your iMessage account. This means you will be able to send and receive Messages from your phone number, just like on your iPhone and on your iPad running iOS 6.

To configure this setting in Messages on your Mac, go to Preferences > Accounts > [your iMessage account].
