Newsreader innovation has blossomed from the ashes of Google Reader, and Newsify for iOS has been my favorite for a while. With a major 4.0 upgrade this week, it now has a new subscription service that can download full-text articles, which is really useful as more sites have taken their feeds to excerpt-only. It’s $2.99 per month and I’ve already subscribed.

Now, I wouldn’t be surprised if newsreader features like this eventually run into… obstacles, as publishers need to make money too. But Newsify is in a great position here: what if it brought publishers on board, increased that price by $1-5 per month, and split that revenue Netflix-style? Then readers could get full, beautiful articles and offline reading, and publishers get a new revenue stream while reaching their audience where they want to be.
